I am Sahar Shah, a traditional oil painter and writer currently based in the United Arab Emirates. Working with time-honoured techniques and archival materials, I create original oil paintings rooted in classical realism, inspired by history, mythology, nature, poetry, and the enduring dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic traditions. Through portraiture, landscape, and narrative painting, my work explores themes of beauty, memory, stillness, and timeless storytelling.
My paintings are held in private collections across the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Italy, France, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the United States. My work has also been featured in international publications celebrating contemporary art and traditional craftsmanship.
My early love for storytelling comes from my beloved father, who filled my childhood with tales of myths, legends, and quiet wonder. It shaped the way I see the world, not just as it is, but as it could be, imbued with a timeless imagination. That love of storytelling eventually found expression not only in my paintings but also in my writing, where I explore art ,history, poetry, philosophy, and the enduring ideas that have shaped civilizations across time. In those quiet hours, when the world softens, inspiration arrives, uninvited yet welcome, delicate yet certain. These fleeting moments, simple and profound, offer glimpses into something timeless.
Rooted in the wisdom of the Old Masters and deeply inspired by the ornate artistic heritage of the East, I strive to create work that transcends trends, where Western grace meets Eastern intricacy. Whether capturing the folds of fabric, the hush of a still figure, the glow of a landscape, or the quiet language of a sunlit interior, I paint in pursuit of beauty that endures.
Every painting is rendered entirely by hand using time-honoured techniques and archival materials, with the hope of creating works that endure, not only in craftsmanship, but in the stories and emotions they carry.
My hope is that my work invites you to pause. To feel. To remember something you didn’t know you had forgotten.
“…and then, I have nature and art and poetry, and if that is not enough, what is enough? ”
